A clothes drier that can be fixed to a wall has two load-bearing arms which open and close in the manner of the leaves of a door, and several parallel, superposed, rods for hanging-up the clothes to be dried which are slidingly guided along the arms in such a way that they are arranged parallel and spaced one behind the other when the arms are swung open. Each hanging-up rod slides in a hole of a load-bearing arm. The holes are arranged one above the next, in staggered relationship. Each arm has depressions in which the rods rest when the appliance is in the "closed" position. The article as claimed, does not take up much space when closed, yet opens out sufficiently wide to afford a relatively large drying space when the clothes to be dried are hung upon it. Simple construction enables it to be made from a relatively few components.
