The timing stage allocates time channels on two PCM TDM lines, the channels consisting of shift registers with a number of stages, corresponding to that of bits per PCM word. They can be connected into a ring through switching paths between the shift register output stage and the input stage of a following shift register. They can be connected to incoming and outgoing line wires of a TDM line. Pairs of shift register stages (W1-Wk) are connected through a second pair of switching paths (SP2), which can be operated alternately with the corresponding first pair of switching paths (SP1), and with the ring forming switching paths (SD). They can be connected to the incoming and outgoing line wires of the other TDM line (B2).
