Level control of blast furnaces using temperature - by cascading the set point for crude gas temp. from the level

The actual value of the crude gas temp. is measured continuously and balanced against the set point. If the actual value exceeds the set point, then the furnace can be set for charging. The temp. set point is continuously adjusted w.r.t. the difference between the actual level and a set normal level (below the max.). When the actual level is below the normal level, the set point is reduced, while if it exceeds the normal level, it is raised. The set point adjustment only occurs if the measured difference between the crude gas temp. set pt. and actual value do not exceed a prescribed amt. It also only occurs if the difference between set point and actual value of level exceed a certain value. System is used on blast furnace systems so that more precise control of the batch charging operation can be more closely controlled, giving uniform operation and consistant quality of pig iron.
