In the parent staple fibres are spun in opposite directions to produce a yarn using a pair of pneumatic nozzles which induce opposite vortical components to the staple fibres as they move axially from one nozzle to the other. In the addn. twisting of spun fibres emerging from a stretching device is delayed prior to entry into the first stage pneumatic nozzle. Pref. the delay is brought about by spreading the filaments along the surface of a frusto-cone, whereby the yarn is twisted in the first stage and double twisted in the second stage, the fibres assisting in the consolidation of the twisted yarn. Yarns have a higher tensile strength.
