A multi-shell, prestressed press. vessel for high temps. and press. consists of inner and outer vessels, the space between these two vessels being filled with materials or objects which transmit compressive stresses but have little or no tensile and shear strength. The outer vessel comprises a number of inwardly curved wall elements, which are surrounded externally by a polygonal arrangement of prestressing members. Pref. the external, polygonal arrangement of prestressing members comprises at least some flat precast, prestressed components joined together under prestress. Results in an apprecial be saving in high quality materials accompanied by shorter construction time on site.
