The rocket comprises an outer tubular casing and =2 successive charges, each with an associated effect, such as a flare charge, arranged along the casing. Pref. at each transition region from one effect or flare charge to the succeeding explosive charge, the outer casing can be ruptured by the gas pressure. In particular, there is a point of intentional weakness or rupture line circumferentially around the casing in this region. The rupture lines may be formed by the insertion of successive lengths of tubular casing or lapped tubes by friction fit. In particular, each successive tube is inserted into the rear end of the preceding length. Alternatively a peripheral groove is formed round the outside as a point of weakness. Used in particular for black powder fireworks for domestic or commercial use. The arrangement enables a succession of flare effects to be discharged at increasing heights.
