Liq. furane resins for use in cements and putties - by reaction of furfuryl alcohol and/or furfural with etherified carbohydrates

A liq. resin based on condensn. prods. of furfuryl alcohol and/or furfural suitable for use as a binder, partic. for cements, putties, trowelling compsns. etc. The furfuryl alcohol and/or furfural are condensed with ehterified carbohydrates. Used partic. as a cement for use with ceramic tiles where acid resistance is required. Cement has improved elasticity, preventing brittle cracking under certain conditions e.g. temp. acid. In an example a cement was prepd. by reaction of furfuryl alcohol with a mixt. of sorbitol and glucose, followed by addn. of furfural as reactive diluent. The resin gave a good chemical resistant, non-cracking cement when mixed with filler and hardener.
