Internal combustion engine has the cylinders (1) arranged in a circle about a central shaft (2). A scissor-like swivel arm system (4) is mounted on the shaft and carries the pressure plates (3) on one end and the connecting rods (5) on the other end. Depending on the particular design the pressure plates can be connected directly with the central shaft inside an enclosed cylinder and can move scissor-like relative to each other. Valve operation is accomplished by an encircling ring (7) to which pressure units (8) are fixed to operate the swivable valve pusher (9). Both bottom dead centres are balanced relative to each other.
