The mechanism incorporates a rigid oblong component (3), to one of whose ends the stylus is fixed with its axis at right angles and in the same plane. The other end of the component is secured to a support in such a manner as to allow movement in the plane of the axes, about a transverse pivot running from a point near this other end of the component to the support. Typically this pivot can be constituted by flexible members (34 - 37) extending from the opposite edges of the component (3) and forming an intersecting structure.
