ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREEthylene polymers are manufactured by polymerizing ethylene underhigh pressure at high temperatures in an autoclave reactor. Theheat of reaction generated by the polymerization is removed, withinthe reactor, by a cooling system in which the cooling medium isethylene; the pressure of the monomer in the cooling system shoulddiffer by from 0 to 200 bars from the pressure prevailing in thepolymerization system, and the temperature of the monomer on enter-ing the cooling system is at least 40°C lower than the temperatureprevailing in the autoclave. The process permits an increase in theconversion achieved in the polymerization reaction.
