The IC engine exhaust gas after burning system with special pressure pulse damping as in 26 10, 153, However a change of flow direction followed by the formation of multiple interacting jets is used at least twice within the burning zone. First, by means of a flat baffle (2e acting also as a heat store, across the outlet from the burner tube (4) followed by an inverted cone of perforated metal through which the gases flow into a post-combustion chamber (30); then by means of the (insulated) partition (29) between burning and cooling zone followed by another perforated screen (10). Similarly in the cooling zone the gases first impact on a tubular baffle (18) with cooling air flowing through it, then pass through a third perforated screen (17) onto a second cooled surface (25) which reverses the flow.
