A pressed, rodlike, wound tampon has an absorbent body of cotton or cellulose wool, through which a recovery thread in the form of a loop passes diagonally. The two legs of the recovery thread penetrate the base of the tampon in the zone of the largest dia. and the cross piece joining the two legs lies either on the circumference close to the front face, or in the front face outside the zone of the largest dia. The tampon which cannot unwind when satd., is produced without additional means such as bridging threads through the windings. The thread passes diagonally across a number of layers of the wadding spiral and thus holds them together.
