The curtain rail system for freely displaceable pleated curtains includes a curtain rod (6) from which the curtain (21) is suspended wherein a longitudinal slot (19) is provided on the top of the rod together with supports (7, 8) which in turn for supporting the curtain rod are each provided at their lower end with an enlarged member (20) which can be guided in the slot. Several circular openings (12) which extend in a slot (22) towards the upper edge are provided at the top of the curtain whilst several coupling discs (1 to 4) are attached to the openings so as to connect up the adjoing pairs. These coupling discs have on their top side a slit (23) which is somewhat wider than the longitudinal slit in the rod so that the curtain can be freely displaced along the whole length of the rod without any obstruction caused through the supports (7, 8).
