Upper and lower half-shells for the wing are mfd. by laying epoxy resin-impregnated glass fibre in heatable moulds, then a uniform layer of hard foam is applied, and finally a further layer of glass fibre is laid on top, and these layers are compressed during curing by applying a vacuum. After the resin has cured, and after a wing beam has been introduced, the two half-shells, still in their moulds are assembled with precision by putting the moulds together, then adhered to each other. The resulting wings are lightweight, and can be mfd. easily, cheaply and with precision.
