A flat head and sound insulating layer of plastics foam is applied to corrugated sheet made of asbestos cement, plastics, etc. so as to rest across the crests of the corrugations. This is applied by a wheeled carriage travelling on rails (2) positioned each side of a raised area supporting the sheets so as to straddle the sheets. Support members (21) are placed inside the troughs of the corrugations and removed after the application of the layer. The creasts of the corrugations are first adhesive coated, then a plastics film is applied immediately before the foam material is deposited. Finally another plastics film can be added to form a sandwich layer. The rolls of plastics film (18, 20) can be in sets, with support wheels (19) between, travelling on the crests. Viewed in the direction of travel, the foam distributor nozzle (17) can be positioned between two rolls.
