Power station flue gas washing - using cooling tower and recycling cooling water

Power station flue gases are washed using at least a part of the recycling cooling water as the wash water. This is used to remove pollutants from the flue gas. The cooling water is cooled by direct contact with air and the flue gas washing is carried out as part of this contact. This is done in the lower part of the cooling tower. The flue gas is first cooled to ambient temp. At least part of the absorbed pollutants are removed from the cooling water which is recycled. For use on coal fired power stations to reduce atmosphere and environmental pollution. Installation costs for gas washers are high, requiring an additional wash liquor circuit etc. The system described greatly reduces the capital costs of such a plant.
