Microwave double horn aerial - generates first pattern with large central lobe and second pattern with central null

The microwave aerial consists of two concentric waveguides with coupling devices, changing over into coaxial horn aerials at their free ends. The outer horn has a coaxial conductor short-circuiting device at a suitable distance from corresponding lateral coupling device. One of the two horn aerials generates a sum diagram (SD) with a maximum in the direction of its main axis. The other radiator generates a difference diagram (DD) with a well depressed minimum in the main axis direction, with steep flanks on both sides. The aerial with the sum diagram is used for useful signal reception, and the aerial with the difference diagram is used for direction finding.
