The parent patent described the prodn. of H2SO4 from SO2 by anodically oxidising SO2 in water contg. iodine or H iodide, in an electrolytic cell in which the anode chamber is sepd. from the cathode chamber by a cation exchange diaphragm. In this addn. the method is improved by oxidising the H iodide contained in the anodically formed H2SO4 mixt., to iodine, sepg. the iodine, and recycling to the electrolysis. The improved method is more economical.
