A section of corrugated paper with parallel ribs is formed into a cylindrical tube (1), whose diameter is at least equal to the maximum bulb diameter (2) while its length is greater than the overall bulb length, the ribs running in the lengthwise direction of the tube. Tubular sections (4, 5) are folded inwards from each end, enclosing round openings. In one of these the bulb base (3) fits closely, while the other is inwards from the further end of the tube and fits round the end portion of the glass bulb.
