Measuring crimping of moving fibre tow - using predetermined formula and drawing off tow at specified tension

Crimping of synthetic textile yarn tow is measured continuously using a formula E=left brace (vo-v1)/vo right brace x 110%, where E is the crimping of a tow having a titre of from 5-500 ktex, vo is the speed of uncrimped yarns and v1 is the speed of crimped yarns in that the crimped yarns are drawn off by a pair of feed rollers with a tension of 0.02-0.5 N/ktex, the stress being referred to the uncrimped yarns. Measurement is carried out in a destruction free manner and the values are accurately reproducible. Use of a large number of test samples is avoided.
