Sanitary ware such as a bath tub is provided with an inner shelf (7) of a high-value plastics which is mounted inside spaced from a self-supporting outer shell (2). The interspace between the two shells is filled with a filler (4) such as a plastics foam injected into the cavity and an adhesive applied to the inner shell before the two shells are fitted together. The inner and/or outer contours of the outer shell (2) can be ribbed to provide greater stability. Since the outer shell and filling provide adequate support and stability the inner shell can be made very thin so that less high-value plastics need to be used, thereby reducing costs.
