The string instrument, namely a chrotta, has a rectangular sound box (1) the front (2) of which has two sound openings positioned side by side. A number of strings (26) extend across the sound box (1) between the two sound openings and rest on a bridge (10) which has one foot secured to the front (2) of the sound box (1) and a second foot passing through one of the sound openings (7) and fixed to the back of the sound box (1).
