Knitting needle selector has a selector finger movable along an arcuate path between needle selecting and resetting positions. An axial recess defined by a pair of walls extenting at right angles to one another is provided with means permitting the finger to be rotated about its own axis through an angle of 90 degrees. It is used for hose knitting machines with needle selection for knitting toe and heel portions. The selector permits of increasing the circular knitting machine speed in that the breakage of needle butts during needle selection in known machines is prevented.
