Ingot casting process of parent patent is for (un)alloyed steels. Slag is poured onto the melt in the mould and cooled at the mould edges. Resistance heating using =1 consumable electrode of similar compsn. to the ingot, at =120 KWh or =103200 Kcal/t ingot maintains the liq. core zone of the slag at high temp. In the addition, the compsn. of the consumable electrode(s) is chosen such that the concn. of a segregating elements in the steel amt. remelted per unit time is reduced by that amt. with which it increases per unit time in the remaining amt. of still molten ingot. Large forging ingots as well as ingots of steels which show a marked tendency to segregation can thus be cast with uniform compsn.
