A fixture for tying fishermans knots in order to join together thread, has two parallel mounting plates (1,2). Two hinged arms (6) with opposite motion, have offset fork ends which cross each other during the knotting operation. Auxiliary lever arms which are operated by cam driven rollers (9), produce the motion of the formed arms (6). Wire spring clips (11) which react against the offset section of the fork arms, are slightly deflected when the hinged arms (6) are in their operating position. Thus the thread is prevented from jumping out of the guide forks.
