摘要
The prodn. comprises (A) mixing hydrocarbons (I), esp. coal tar or brown coal tar asphalt, contg. quinoline-insol. materials and aromatic hydrocarbons with condensed rings, with hydrocarbon solvent (II) with 95 vol.% distn. temp. 350 degrees C max. and BMCI value 5-70; (B) allowing the mixt. to sediment under gravity; (C) distilling the supernatant layer to obtain quinoline-free hydrocarbons with condensed rings; and (D) coking this material. High quality coke suitable for mfr. of graphite electrodes is obtd. in high yields from materials contg. quinoline-insoluble fractions, by a simple process. In an example, coal tar contg. 3.3 wt.% quinoline-insolubles is mixed with cyclohexane, ligroin or kerosene in wt. ratio 2:1 at 60-90 degrees C and allowed to settle for 5 hr. The upper layer is sepd., distilled up to 260 degrees C and the residue coked.
