The retainer is for the plate of a plate valve, partic. for compressors, in which a seat plate has a bendable plate located on it and held in position by retaining bolts on which a clamp is located. The clamp (9) has a guide arms which encompass the plate ends on both sides, and it (9) has at least a flexible extension (14, 17) which projects over the end of the plate (4). It acts as a spring arrangement or stroke limitation for the plate (4). The clamp (9) comprises a strip shaped leaf spring, out of which the arms (11) and the extensions (14, 17) as well as the holes (12, 15) for bolt (7) fixture are stamped and multiply folded.
