A goods handling machine is for use in warehouses and stores for acceptance, identification, recording, and storage of articles, especially packages of bottles. It has a component to accept and convey one or more packages, a component for the determination of the dimensions of the individual packages, and the number and dimensions of the bottles in each package, and a component which controls the return of deposit payments made on the assessed number of bottles. The packages may be transferred to a further component for storage after counting in component. The operations may be recorded by a registration unit.
