The ultrasonic drilling machine has ultrasonic generator which carries the drilling tool. The drilling tool and the workpiece support table move towards each other relatively in drilling direction. The system can be adapted for use with machine tools cutting metal with conventional tools. The workpiece table (5) is adjusted in a plane at right angles to the drilling direction (25). A mechanical storage (38) is provided with stops (36,37) for defining the position of the workpiece table (5) in the plane of given drilling operation. The workpiece table moves on a slide which moves preferably in horizontal direction.
