Abrasive parts prodn. using primer on abrasive grains - filler and/or reinforcement to promote adhesion to matrix

In the prodn. of abrasive parts, consisting of a matrix, in which abrasive grains, filler and/or reinforcing agent are embedded, a primer (I) is added to promote adhesion before mixing and/or incorporating in the matrix. All process stages pref. take place at ambient temp. In an example, 1000 g. abrasive grains were mixed with 50 g. primer (polyester soln. in organic solvent) and dried. This was then mixed with a partly branched polyester, treated with TDI and poured into a mould. The mechanical strength of the abrasive disc was much better than that obtd. without (I). The properties of the prod. are improved by a very simple method, which does not require the provision of special costly plant and is generally applicable.
