The device is based on an oscillating roller, around which the strip passes, mounted on a pivoted arm together with an adjustable counterweight. A pneumatic piston also acts on the pivot arm, controlling the tension of the strip. Air supplied to the piston is varied by a valve operated by a second pivot arm. This is moved by a cam rotated by a third pivot arm, the end of which has a roller running against the roll of material. The cam thus controls the relationship between the strip tension and the roll radius.
