Shipboard oil-water resolver - with water phase removal from treating section to avoid electrical short circuit

A shipboard electrical water-in-oil dispersion resolver comprising, in an upper enclosure a coalescing section including an inlet for introducing the dispersion into a separation effecting electrical field to produce a continuous oil phase, which is withdrawn from above the field, and a continuous water phase which is transferred through an upright passage into a lower enclosure from which water can be removed, the passage including a flow controller permitting unobstructed downward flow and preventing upward flow of the water phase during displacement of the resolver from an upright position. For desalting and dehydrating crude oil carried by a tanker to provide fuel for its gas turbine propulsion unit. The construction avoids electrical short circuiting by the water phase during severe pitching and rolling of the ship.
