Cell for converting the sun's radiation into electrical energy has (I) a CaAs crystal with first and second opposite surfaces, (II) a Ga1-x AlxAs crystal with first and second opposite surfaces (where 1 x 0; and x changes linearly from the first surface to the second surface, pref. being 0.7 at the first surface, and O at the second surface), and (III) a device connected between the first surface of I and the first surface of II to utilise the electrical energy developed over the pn-transition. The second surface of II borders the second surface of I to form a transition, the first surface of II is suitable for receiving the sun's radiation, and oth I and II are doped in order to form the pn-transition near the transition between the two crystals. Gives high electricity yields.
