Polyethylene and ethylene-propylene copolymers are prepd. by polymn. of the monomers in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents using hydrogen as mol.wt. regulator, a catalyst comprising a reaction prod. of TiCl4 and a solid support and an organoaluminium cpd. as activator, the improvement being that the support comprises polyalkyl-alumoxanes of formula R2Al(OAlR)2 (where R is alkyl and n the polymn degree) and that the polymn. reaction is effected at 60-180 degrees C. The polymers have a residual catalyst content 5-7 times lower than obtd. with prior art processes and the catalyst residues need not therefore be removed from the prods. The polymer (polyethylene) yield is 375-3400g/g of solid catalyst compared to 37-236g. in prior art.
