low-press. extinguisher system is operated for a cold storage plant; CO2 stored in a vessel is fed to extinguisher nozzles via a duct system, and its heat content is increased before or after the nozzles by an infeed of external heat. Preferably a heat exchanger is downstream of the vessel, in the duct system, and is a heat accumulator for the required heat, with a well-insulated container for hot water with a heater to equalize heat losses. A throughflow heater is used, and the CO2 duct system passes through the container as a pipe bundle or coil. Deposition of solid CO2 in the space extinguished is avoided.
