The single or polyphase rectifier assembly has each end of its input transformer secondary winding coupled over a first SCR to one end of a tapped choke, and over a second SCR to the opposite end of the choke. The four SCRs, therefore, connect each secondary end to each choke end. One end of the load is connected to the choke tapping, and the other end is coupled over a first diode to one end of the secondary, and over a second diode to the opposite end of the secondary. The SCRs cathodes are connected to the choke, and the two diodes anodes are connected to the load. This arrangement provides reduction of the reactive power.
