Microorganism cultivation process - using a bubble column fermentor into which air is blown to agitate the contents

Microorganisms are seeded into a cultivation medium in a bubble column fermenter into the bottom of which air is blown to agitate the column contents and improve growth of the microorganism. The air feed is controlled so that the superficial velocity of the air flowing through the column is in the range of 14-32 cm/sec. during the whole of the cultivation process to reduce foaming in the column. Pref. the contents of the column are free of defoaming agent.
