In the treatment of industrial residues containing organic substances by burining part of these residues, a first fraction is submitted to pyrolysis in the absence of air while the remainder is burnt the heat produced by the combustion being used to provide heat for the pyrolysis of the first fraction, which volatile material evolved in the pyrolysis is recovered in part. Enables industrial residues such as scrap tyres, oil filtering sands, plastic waste etc., to be disposed of without causing atmospheric pollution.
