Pharmaceutical compsn. with antidepressant activity comprises a filler, esp. sugar or starch, and as active ingredient a diazaphenoxazine deriv. of formula (I): Pref. (I) is 0.025 mg per tablet. (I) has activity similar to that of the imipramine and amitriptyline antidepressants but has low anti-reserpine activity and no action on the vegetative nervous system. It has no cholinolytic or monoamine oxidase-inhibiting effects and LD50 (mouse) is 34 mg/kg (C. v.) and 580 mg/kg (p.o.). (I) is useful in treatment of mild or medium depression but is of little or no value in deep, long-term depression.
