Sample taking equipment comprises a vertical frame in which sample bottles formed from hollow cylinders are mounted on rails. Each bottle has blanking balls on return mechanism which seal the bottles, when pins which retain small diameter cables holding the balls are released. When in position force in the carrying cable is removed, allowing a traction rings to pull a handling cable when the carrying cable is pulled again. This permits a cable to release the pins. The frame is supported on hollow legs in which holes permit use of measuring instruments such as thermometers. The hollow legs enter the sediment due to the weight of the apparatus.
