The index tab for attaching to a file in a suspension filing system consists of a lower hinged part for attached to the top edge or the side of the file, with an indicator port above it, to extend outwards from the file, and carrying a recognition symbol, markings or title. The hinged part has a locking button (14) on one flap (11) which is a press fit in a hole in the other flap (9) so as to clip onto the file, which has a set of holes along it, by means of which the assembly can be located in any desired position. The top part has a backing plate (18) to carry the marking, with a transparent cover (22) which slides over it, through which the marking can be read.
