A weft yarn is fed from a reserve to a weft picker so that it forms a loop around e.g. a pulley on the weft picker, and the speed at which the weft yarn is advanced from the reserve is slightly greater than the speed at which the weft picker is advanced across the warp. The weft yarn is not submitted to high tensions during picking, thereby reducing breakages.
