Sizing compsn. for textile warps - consisting of aq. dispersion of aliphatic vinylester-(meth)acrylic acid copolymer and sulphonated polyester

Sizing compsn. for warps of textile yarns, esp. polyester yarns, e.g. polyethylene, terephthalate, consists of an aq. emulsion or dispersion contg. (dry basis) (1) 60-90 wt. % copolymer of a (meth)acrylic ester, and a vinyl ester of a satd. aliphatic acid, and (2) 40-10 wt. % water soluble sulphonated polyester prepd. by polycondensing (a) an aromatic diacid, or its anhydride or diesters, (b) an unsatd. aliphatic diacid, or its anhydride or diesters with (c) a satd. glycol, and sulphonating the unsatd. aliphatic side chains of the polyester. Compsn. is easily applied by conventiona- textile machines and avoids use of organic solvents. Satisfactory bonding to textile yarns is obtd. Relatively small amounts, e.g. 5 wt. % (dry basis) provide a good sizing effect. Compsn. easily removed after weaving by use of an org. solvent, e.g. trichloro- or perchloroethylene.
