The device is for transmitting large quantities of information in the form of continuous signals between two mutually rotating bodies, without mechanical contacts. This function has hitherto been performed by devices such as slip rings, and the mechanism described here constitutes an advance on those. The information to be transmitted must be used to modulate a light source, the output of which is passed down a bundle of optical fibres (41, 42, 4n). Each bundle is spread out at one end to form one ring of a multiple ring disc of fibres (91, 92,.....9n) which face in a flat plane, a matching set of concentric rings (141, 142,.....14n) feeding in turn another set of bundles of optical fibres mounted on the second rotating body. These in turn supply photocells (191, 192, .....19n).
