The coffin is designed so that the corpse of the deceased person does not have to be lifted up to enable it to be placed inside. The baseplate of the coffin is a flat slab, which is of greater dimensions than the walls of the coffin so that there is a flange which projects beyond the side walls and at the ends. The sides of the flange (2) are turned downwards. There are holes (4) in the flange to admit the passage of bolts to secure the sides of the coffin to the base. The sides, ends and lid (1) are made in one piece and the coffin handles are attached to the sides where appropriate.
