The inking stamp has one or more engraved drums rotating in a chassis so as to imprint characters on paper etc. A floating plate (20) is also mounted on the chassis (10) and surrounds the characters (12) in the printing position. This accommodates an engraved rubber stamp producing a fixed imprint around the variable characters printed. It can be held in place by two pins passing through the chassis and elongated holes in parts of it, and it can be spring-loaded away from the chassis.
