The joint is made by inserting and turning the smaller end (1) of one irrigation pipe into the larger end (2) of another. This causes male lugs (4) to lock under female spring clips (3). Each clip is fixed to the beaded rim (13) of the female pipe end and comprises a top hat section with a lead in. The male lug has a recess (9, 10) and the water pressure engages this recess over the front (9) of the clip. A double lipped seal (10) is held in the beaded rim, the lips (11, 12) being spread apart. Water pressure pushes on lip (12) against the inserted pipe end and the other (11) against the seal housing.
