Rolling mill with repeaters and doublers - mounted on wheels for rapid interchange between automatic and manual operation

Rolling mill plant using several roll stands, each fitted with at least one automatic guide for the product leaving the stands, the guides consisting of e.g. a repeater and a doubler. The repeaters and doublers are equipped with means so that they can be moved w.r.t. the rolling mills between a working position and a position where they are not in use. The repeaters and doublers are pref. provided with wheels and drive units so they can travel along rails, some of the rails being fitted with points and sidings where spare repeaters or doublers may be stored. One repeater can pref. be moved vertically in vertical guide rails. Used in mechanised rolling mill used for a wide variety of rolled products where only a small labour force is required and the mill can be rapidly adapted to suit the product. The invention can also be employed with older type mills and/or where only a limited floor area is available.
