The lifting truck has a horizontal rectangular chassis mounted on steering wheels, at least one of which has a brake. Four vertical columns are mounted at the corners of the chassis, and between them a load-supporting cradle moves up and down, under the action of a drive mechanism. The cradle can be actuated mechanically, electrically or hydraulically via ropes reeved round pulleys in the chassis and cross-members and the columns, the cradle being suspended from the rope ends at each column.
