A metallic or plastic capsule for a bottle top is intended in particular the type wrapped round the top of champagne bottles. The cover includes a tear-off strip, the ends of which are not on the edge of the basic piece of material. The conical shaped cover is formed by glueing together the edges. The ends of the strip are therefore remote from the glue line. This permits easier use, and prevents damage to the identifying label and to the strip itself. The strip is made in the form of a circular arc, so eliminating the danger of damage caused by forcing a straight strip to adopt a curve.
